Chapter 3: I Work Here~

Recap----

It’s been four years, four painfully long years…and you still couldn’t forget him.

No….You didn’t want to forget him.

End Recap---

A whole week had gone by since the incident at your house with Alfred. And he seemed to grow careful and nervous around you a lot lately, always apologizing awkwardly whenever he got the chance. You always told him that it was alright and that he should just pretend it never happened, but that only seemed to intensify his demeanor even more as he continued to avoid you more and more.

One day while you were watering the sunflowers in the floral area you weren’t paying any attention and ended up turning to water some other plants, but you’d failed to notice that you were still holding the watering can in a watering position and ended up getting the person behind you all wet. Well most just their shoes, but hey!~ People and their shoes now-a-days, right?

Well, none-to-say, the customer wasn’t too happy about that since they ended up lifting you up from the ground by the collar of your shirt. You didn’t even react when they started to chew you out about how expensive their shoes were and what not, but all you did was stare/glare at them which seemed to really only tick them off even more. But as the fact of the situation started to finally rub in you felt a blush come to your cheeks as you struggled in his grasp. “What? Finally give’n a s***? Che, B****, you don’t seem to know who I am? Can you believe this h**?” the strong man rang out to the randomly appearing possy behind him who only cheered in agreement. You could only full on glare daggers at the man for daring to lay his mits on you, but contrary to belief, you were a pacifist. However as you grew more and more flustered from this assault you felt his hands had, for a while, been trembling. Looking around him you quickly realized that your aura had once again come out; if not stronger than it usually was due to the fact that you were indeed very much annoyed at the moment. Looking around you, you realized that everyone in the shop was giving you that fearful look which you dreaded, some whispering to their children something which you couldn’t hear over the sound of your heart racing.
The man shook you around as he caused you to drop the watering can; spilling its contents all over the floor. He had a fearful look in his eyes, one that you’d yet to run into. Usually people just ran away at the sight of your fearsome aura, but this guy. He was on a whole ‘nother level entirely. He rounded back his fist getting ready to punch you. Immediately you shut your eyes not wanting to see when it came and bracing yourself you readied to feel the aching sting when…

“I would not-in be doing that now, Da?”

You cautiously cracked open an eye to see none other than that same Russian fellow Alfred didn’t get along with before. He was holding rather tightly to the man’s wrist as you heard a loud crunch come from the area. The man fell to the ground dropping you in the process as he took hold of his shattered wrist and screamed bloody murder, his posy having already fled. Ivan was towering over him as he darkly chanted “KolKOLkolKOLkolKOL—” his own dark aura having engulfed the place and swallowing up your own [a/c] aura as he quietly drew out a shining sink pipe from his coat. If everyone wasn’t already flipping out they sure as hell were now.

Hearing all the commotion outside, Alfred cursed to himself as he slammed open the office door and looked around at all the chaos and panic that had once again turned his lovely shop into a total war zone. Dodging past running and screaming citizens he finally made his way over to where you and Ivan were at. Seeing this he soon realized that it was in fact Ivan who was creating the putrid aura that sent everyone into a frenzy.

“_______!” Alfred called running up to you and getting between you and Ivan as he glared at the tall and menacing Russian. There was complete silence between the three of you as the shop was emptied out once again, but this time by Ivan’s terrifying aura not yours. It stayed that way till the sound of one of the light fixtures collapsing to the ground was heard. “What were you trying to do with ______?” Alfred growled lowly as he kept you protectively behind his back in assurance that Ivan would have to get past him if he wanted to get anywhere near you. Ivan could only smile oddly smile at Alfred as he held tight to his faucet pipe, “Only doing in what you failed to do, stupid American.” He stated with an innocent smile plastered on his face. Not liking what he had to say, Alfred was about to punch him when you ran in front of Ivan; physically startling Alfred and a somewhat surprised Ivan. “I-It wasn’t….It wasn’t his fault. No…he saved me…yeah…” you said under your breath avoiding eye contact with your boss.

Alfred lowered his fist, an unpleasant look of surprise written all over his face. “…He…saved you?” he repeated uncertain. All you did was nod in return and motioned to move away from Ivan, but a pair of gloved hands had instead found their way to rest atop your shoulders bringing you closer to the firm chest behind you. Alfred verbally flipped out as he tried to slap Ivan’s hands from your being but failed when Ivan sharply turned and began leading you out of the wreckage of a shop and past the same Chinese construction man who always came to get the placed fixed up. Giving him a quick “Privet”  Ivan lead you down the street, you all the while not exactly sure how to respond to this sudden change in events. All the while your boss was left back at the shop trying to get past the constructor, Yao, but due to certain things needing be assisted by the owner he had to stay back. Yao held strong to the yowling American as he tried to force his way through the door to chase after Ivan and ______, but Yao ended up calling for reinforcements as it took practically all of his men to hold Alfred back. Finally before succumbing to fatigue the rowdy American let out once last charge before he was completely tackled to the ground by Yao and his men, “DAMNIT! GET OFF ME—CAN’T YOU SEE I’M IN A HURRY HERE?!—________ WAS JUST KIDNAPPED BY THAT BASTARD COMMIE!!!!”

Back with Ivan, you weren’t sure if letting this man lead you around anywhere, because saved you or not he was still very much a stranger to you and you did very, very, very…poorly with strangers. Every step of the way your dark aura seemed to strike fear into anyone who crossed paths with the two of you; even gaining the two of you a few weird stares here and there.

Finally Ivan led you into what looked to be an abandoned park. You continued to let him guide you before suddenly you found your sight to be obstructed by darkness as his hands moved from your shoulders to covering your eyes.

“W-What—“

“No peeking, ______~ the next place is a surprise, da? So the malen'kiye podsolnechnika [1] is going to have to wait.~”

Listening to Ivan’s calm voice you slowly nodded. Yes, you were completely putting your life in the hands of this supposedly dangerous stranger. Truth be told you didn’t want to admit it but somewhere deep down you felt that if you were to come to an unfortunate end you didn’t really think too much about it. So letting Ivan lead you onward to who knows where you just went along with it. All too soon he stopped and you could feel a slight breeze blow past you as the wind brought forth with it an unusual scent. “Da, we are here now, podsolnechnika…” Slowly the darkness faded as he removed his hands and replaced them back atop your shoulders. Tenderly cracking open your eyes, you let the images steadily seep in as your [e/c] grew brighter and brighter with each new image that popped up into your head.

There before you stood the tallest patch of sunflowers you’d ever seen, many towering over both you and Ivan as they gazed at the brilliant sun hovering just above. You felt a blush graze your cheeks as irrelevant tears threatened to peek through your eyes at the breath taking image before you. You felt just like a child again, the peak of wonder and curiosity seeping into your core as you imagined running and frolicking through the field, a happy smile plastered across your face, free and happy.

Suddenly there was a slight sensation of a hand rubbing the top of your head and bringing your [e/c] eyes up you were met with a familiar pair of amethyst eyes. “You were having trouble with the feelings, da?” he asked as he kept rubbing the top of your head, almost as if he were petting it. You blushed and felt your aura starting to seep out once again but this time it felt different, as if it were being blocked. You fluster was still there, but the aura was nowhere to be sensed. Ivan just continued to pet your head as he stared at the sunflower field before him. You stared at him confused for a short while before looking away, a potent blush layered upon your cheeks as you thought back to when you actually pondered on the thought of whether or not he would actually kill you, but as you thought about it now you couldn’t help but hide your face in shame, letting [h/l] [h/c] strands block any view of you.

Noticing the sudden change in demeanor Ivan bent down to look at you, his inquisitive amethyst eyes peered past your hair to look at you, “what is wrong, podsolnechnika?” he asked trying to part the [h/c] strands that shielded your face, but instead you pulled away and took a step closer to hide in the sunflowers. He was about to follow you in but you stopped him when you started talking, “You shouldn’t follow me…” you stated plainly. He just stood there at the base of the field and kept a serious look plastered onto his face which then softened some as he responded back, “…And why not I ask you, podsolnechnika?” When you didn’t respond back this time he trudged one foot in…no reaction…he then took another step getting engulfed in the tall sunflowers as well. Looking around he couldn’t see you but he could here you.

“…Why…Why aren’t you afraid of me?” you asked lightly. Ivan chuckled at this, “I could ask you the same, da?” You frowned at that. You weren’t sure why you weren’t afraid of him…maybe it was because he reminded you of yourself?...You didn’t know. Speaking up once again you stepped even further into the sunflower field, “…Who are you?...Why do you not get along with my boss?” At this Ivan didn’t seem to respond at first but after a while he stepped closer through the sunflowers, “I am Ivan Braginski. If you couldn’t tell I should probably tell you that I’m Russian. The stupid American just seems to take coldly to me I guess….He calls me the villain.~” With that he took a step closer to where you were without you realizing just how very close he was.  Looking up at all the droopy sunflower heads you let a feeling of melancholy wash over you for a meager second, then looking back down at the ground you frowned as a deep blush made its way onto your cheeks, “…I…have one last question for you then…” you stated rather matter of factly, but even as you heard no response in return you continued to ponder, “…Why are you…so friendly and n-nice? …Alf—Mr. Jones said…you were ruthless…terrible…barren of any sort of guilt or conscience…Is any of that true? It doesn’t…you’re really nice…right?” you found yourself sinking lower to the ground as you crouched, a dread flowing over you, but it wasn’t malevolent, no, it was one of worry and a sense of hope shattering.

Finally standing directly behind you, Ivan squatted down and stared at you, a glimmer of pain reflecting in his eyes, “…Are you afraid of Ivan too, podsolnechnika?...You…you are also afraid?” Jumping up in surprise you stare/glared at the Russian as he pulled himself to his feet, a look of hopelessness barely visible before a cold glare replaces it. You feel the pang of guilt wrack through you as you stare him down, “I’m not.” You say bluntly, but he doesn’t seem to believe you as he scowls beneath his breath and nibbles lightly at his bottom lip, “Nhyet, you are lying, Da?” he stares coldly at you before continuing, “Do not lie to me podsolnechnika. I know you are!” He then grips your shoulders and holds to them tightly, as if letting go would make you disappear.

You wince lightly at his strong grip but pull through the pain with a strong face, “I am not…” you state plainly, so lacking of emotion it seeps beneath the Russian’s skin making him shout and throw you to the ground. You let out a silent gasp as your body collides with the hard ground scattering sunflower petals in your wake, but within a split second Ivan is on top of you straddling your hips as he press your wrists down on either side of your head.

“…Stop lying…”

“….I’m not…”

“You are.”

“…I am not.”

“…You are!”

“I’m not lying to you…”

“I-…I said to stop lying to me , podsolnechnika!!!”

Ivan crouched down lower, his body trembling as he spoke, “…You…are afraid of me, podsolnechnika…I can see it in your eyes…you cannot lie to me, da?” Suddenly there was a wetness that fell upon your cheeks as you stared, yes stared, into the hope depraved amethyst eyes of Ivan’s. He let out a stifled sob as his grip on your wrist grew limp and pulling himself up he glared down at you, “Leave here…now.” He said with a threatening tone laced in his voice. You slowly got back to your feet but refused to leave. Staring at his hands rather than his eyes you stood your ground, “…I’m…not going to leave…and I told you that I’m not afraid of you…!” you nearly shouted as you took a step closer towards him, surprising him once again. He looked as if he were about to strike you but before he could you shut your eyes and flinched, “I-Ijustwanttobeyourfriend!” you cried with as much emotion you could muster, practically bringing tears to your eyes.

The aura that had spread quickly dissipated as a stifled gasp was heard from the tall and menacing Russia before you. Slowly reopening your [e/c] eyes you stared at Ivan as his hand dropped to his side limp, a look of sheer shock plastered on his face, “You are…not lying? You mean it, podsolnechnika?” Quickly nodding quite embarrassed you frowned at the tears that were now running down your cheeks, but before you could wipe them away Ivan beat you to it as he took your face in between the palms of his hands and used his thumbs to wipe away your stray tears as the freely fell from your [e/c] eyes. He looked down at you, his own amethyst eyes glistening happily, “Then I am not lying either when I ask you to become one with Ivan, da?”

You stared at him blankly, “H-..hah..?” But all Ivan did was laugh whole heartedly at your reaction as he pulled you in for a huge bear-hug. Smiling some, you blushed happy to make a new friend.

You yawned as you filled the books into the right slots in the book store area. Yesterday had been quite the stressfully pleasing day and you were actually still happy about it, though when you told your boss about it this morning…let’s just say he wasn’t all too pleased. Looking up towards the office area you could actually still hear Alfred whining about how he couldn’t believe that you were now practically buddies with that, as he put it, Commie Bastard. But you could only smile and giggle subtly as you continued to put away the books, but that’s when you heard the entrance door open and the close, the little bell going off.

You checked the clock on the wall behind you to see that there were still a good thirty minutes till the shop opened up, so heading over to the front you were about to tell them that the shop was closed but then,

“Ah! Dobroe utro, podsolnechnika!~”

You were immediately glomped into a fierce hug as the tall Russian lifted you up from the ground and squeezed you. Wheezing, you greeted him back as he released you and patted your head soothingly. Just then your boss came running out the office and snagged you away from your new Russian friend, “Hey, out of the shop, Commie! Or if you can’t tell we’re not opened up yet.” Alfred growled, still a bit annoyed that Ivan was now chummy with you.

But before Alfred could kick Ivan out, the Russian lifted up a signed document and held it in your boss’s face, “W-…What’s that?” Alfred asked blankly. Smirking somewhat to himself, Ivan showed off his trademark innocent smile as he pressed the paper into Alfred’s face almost knocking him over, “Just read it…stupid American.” Ivan muttered the last part so you didn’t hear, but as your boss took hold of the document he straightened his glasses as he peered carefully at the fancy writing. You gave Ivan a confused look as he in turn just gave you one of his happy innocent grins. Alfred on the other hand just read and reread the paper, his face blanker than blank, “I don’t get it.” He mumbled bluntly. “Shocker…” Ivan muttered back, his smile refusing to fade an inch, but taking back the document and rolling it back up and stowing it away back into his coat he turned to face you and your boss.

“I have gone to your boss to ensure my employment here, da?” he stated sweetly. You jumped slightly as you figured out what he was saying and gave him a warm smile, but your boss being your boss only stared at Ivan dumbly, a blank and void look in his eyes as he tried to contemplate what Ivan was trying to tell him. Sighing, Ivan pulled the document from his coat once more and held it in direct eye shot of the slow American, then leaning in close, his dark aura growing with impatience he sneered innocently,

“I work here, Da?~”

After a moment there was no response from the American but as time skipped on a certain click went on in the dirty blonde’s head,

“Wha—WAIT-WHAT?!!!!”
